Sonoma County Cannabis Workshop Program Overview

Wednesday, May 3, 3pm – 5pm
Glaser Center
547 Mendocino Ave. Santa Rosa, CA 95401
This kick-off workshop is for all operator types and will include an overview of the Program,
including the Cannabis Land Use Ordinance, Cannabis Health Ordinance, and Cannabis Business Tax
Ordinance. County staff will go over requirements that apply to all cannabis businesses such as
zoning, separation criteria, and operator criteria, as well walk attendees through the permit
process. The workshop will also include an introduction to business planning basics.

Medical Cannabis Cultivation Permits 101

Wednesday, May 10, 3pm – 5pm
Permit and Resource Management Department Hearing Room

This workshop is geared toward cultivators (indoor, outdoor, and mixed-light) and nurseries and
will include an overview of cultivation and nursery permit requirements, site planning (setbacks,
maps, building, etc.), biotic assessments, riparian corridor requirements, tree removal, and
inspections.

Ordinance Standards and BMP Compliance for Cannabis Cultivation

Wednesday, May 17, 3pm – 5pm

This workshop is for Sonoma County cannabis cultivators and focuses on complying with operating standards and best
management practices (BMP), waste management, pesticide use, nutrient management, and erosion and sediment control.

Water and Wastewater

Wednesday, May 24 , 3pm – 5pm

This workshop is primarily for cultivators and will discuss waste discharge requirements, runoff
and storm water control, water supply and management, groundwater monitoring and well metering, and North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board’s waste discharge permit.

Medical Cannabis Cultivation Infrastructure
Wednesday, May 31, 3pm – 5pm

This workshop is geared toward cultivators, nurseries, any operators doing new construction, and operators on parcels that are not hooked up to municipal services. Staff will discuss main, support, and ancillary structure uses and permitting, security and seclusion (screening, fending and access), grading, and well and septic requirements and permitting.

Manufacturing

Wednesday, June 7, 3pm – 5pm

This workshop is for manufacturers and will including a discussion of zoning and permitting, food safety,
industrial area requirements, volatile vs. non-volatile extraction methodologies under the Ordinances,
Haz-Mat (hazardous materials), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identification numbers,
emergency services, and inspections.

Dispensaries

This workshop is for current and prospective dispensary operators and will including a discussion of
zoning and permitting, food safety, and inspections.

Taxation

This workshop is for all operator types and will focus on cannabis business tax rates, how and when to
file tax forms, crop loss considerations, and business property tax.
